I had a house in Le Crotoy. If that sounds a bit Dinesen, then I think perhaps it is. It's the place where the Somme meets the sea, and it's incredibly beautiful. I was back there. It was lovely to see old friends and to be somewhere that I love so much. When I lived there I used to walk for miles most days, usually before breakfast, and I had the chance to do the same again, on my own, and it was perfect. These are photos which I took as I was walking yesterday. I think I was out for between two and three hours, from when the sun rose until it was bright and light. It was very cold, so my eyes watered a little, and I wore my gansey. I didn't see anyone else, but there were thousands of sea birds, including some small egrets, my favourites, well, I love seeing the storks too, but they come later. Once, when I lived there, I saw a great egret. If you walk along the beach for maybe three miles and beyond, which I did, you reach the dunes. In the summer I used to fall asleep on the sand there, hidden amongst the tall marram grass. I'll add some more photos from my visit soon.
What a lovely holiday bonus - and fabulous photos
